09/05/2026 Day 1: During AM walk through, handler observed that K-9 did not eat kibble offered. K-9 was laying down in front of kennel door.
09/02/2026 Dog approached handler, ears perked, eyes wide, neutral, ignored treats. Easy to leash and walk to yard, slight pulling towards kenneled dogs, easy to redirect and continue walking. Assistant handler was waiting in yard for mock M&G, dog immediately approached assistant handler, remained calm, neutral body, sniffed assistant handler, allowed pets. After exploring yard dog approached lead handler, low tail wags, panting, sniffed handler, leaned in and allowed petting all over, walked over to assistant handler soliciting more attention, ignored hot dogs. Able to pick up leash and walk back to kennel with no issues, easy return, came forward and allowed handler to remove leash by hand. *Due to notes of resource guarding toys/food, adding an Older Children 12+ requirement. Dog should be fed separately from other animals in home, as well as monitored around toys. Potential adopters should be counseled on slow dog-dog introductions, which should only occur after proper decompression time.
09/01/2026 Dog was closed to back half of kennel during AM cleaning. Verbally coaxed forward without issues. Would dodge leash placement. Walked slowly to main PY without issues. Would explore nose to ground. Approached handler while panting with mouth wide open. Handler would speak softly to dog while extending hand to pet on head. Offered treats, was not interested in treats. After a few moments of petting on head while speaking softly, dog would stop panting heavy & returned to sniffing nose to ground. Able to approach dog & pet along back of body without issues. Not interested in toys. Picked up leash & walked back to kennel slowly. Would be startled by reactive dogs, looking up towards handler & lowering body, able to keep walking with verbal coaxing. Entered into kennel without issues. Attempted to push out during leash removal by hand.
08/30/2026 Requesting full evaluation based on intake and notes from previous owner.
08/29/2026 Easy leashing, walking into Triage. Tolerated restraint for vaccines. Watched hands when petting at times. Pacing, heavy panting, wide eyed. Walked to kennel and entered with no issue

08/29/2026 From previous owner: A Letter to the Adopter, I write this with a heavy heart, our family needs to surrender our Gunner. We wanted to let those who might want him as a part of their family to know a few things. If he comes and finds you, he needs to go outside, same if he sits at the backdoor. After he has been outside he will bark, he is potty trained but may have an accident if left alone longer than 4 hours - he is rarely left alone. He is not crate trained. He loves cheese, pizza crust, chicken and rice. We are a peanut free household, so we aren't sure if he likes peanut butter! He doesn't like everyone, if he doesn't like someone, he will stand between them and his family. In our family, he was very protective over me and our kids. We got him in December 2020 at 11 months old, his birthday is 1-24-2020. He chews tennis balls until they break. His favorite balls to play with are medium sized bacon balls. We learned too late that rope toys won't last more than four hours. He plays with his ball whenever he wants, at least 20 minutes a day. If he starts to do the zoomies around the house, he has to go to the bathroom badly. If you play ball in the house he will go outside after. In the winter, he likes to be outside for longer periods of time in the evening. Walking on leash is something we weren't experienced in due to my physical limitations. He does well in the car but not often. He was allowed to be on the furniture, expect a couch potato. He had a dog bed but preferred the tile or a blanket. He doesn't take pills well. When approaching, he likes his hips touched first but don't come from behind. He loves his ears to be rubbed. He has some allergies. His favorite treat flavors are egg + bacon, apple + yogurt and pumpkin. Blue Buffalo is the brand of food we used his whole life. Due to our family circumstances he was hardly ever alone. He is a great listener, gives the best cuddles, and will follow his favorite person around the house. He loves to wait in the kitchen or under the table for any food droppings. Bath time and nail trims were a challenge. He knows how to back up when you say "beep beep". Did I mention he LOVES cheese?! He hates yelling and will talk back if you yell at him. He is wary of strangers and men, but he fell in love with the little female Chihuahua next door. He was a blessing to our family and we know he will be to yours. His name is Gunner but we only call him that if he is in trouble, otherwise we call him Gummy Bear or GB. Please take care of our sweet GB, he will forever be in our hearts. Love, his previous family.
