About me I am Roger, a seasoned pro at the art of relaxation. I am a senior canine with a knack for finding the coziest spots for my long, rejuvenating naps. But don't let my love for sleep fool you. I have an insatiable affection for people. My eyes light up at the sight of human friends, old and new, and my tail wags with an enthusiasm that is truly infectious. I have spent my days mastering the balance between rest and play, and I'm eager to share my wisdom. Choosing to adopt me means welcoming a companion who is as content to snuggle up for a quiet evening as I am ready to offer companionship and unconditional love. I am more than just a dog, I'm a friend for life.

12/20/2024 12/20/24 12:32 Foster exam for coughing and diarrhea S/O: Gen - BAR, BCS 5/9, good appetite EENT - Eyes clear and free of discharge/redness. Mild serous nasal discharge with crust on nares. External ears are free of discharge/redness. Oral - Moderate generalized tartar and gingivitis. H/L/MM - Heart rate and rhythm normal, no murmurs or arrhythmias appreciated. Normal bronchovesicular sounds. Normal respiratory rate and effort. No stertor, no stridor. Mucous membranes pink and moist with CRT<2s. GI - Abdomen soft and non-painful upon palpation, no masses or organomegaly appreciated. UROGEN - Previously neutered male. INTEG - Coat is clean and clear of redness and ectoparasites. NEURO - Normal mentation. Decreased to absent conscious proprioception in hindlimbs. M/S - Generally stiff gait and will intermittently knuckle LHL. No muscle atrophy or limping appreciated. A: - Neurologic and gait deficits are likely secondary to osteoarthritis; explained to foster that we are unable to dispense gabapentin and would not do long-term NSAIDs without further diagnostics (i.e. CBC/chemistry panel) which we do not regularly perform at the shelter. - Foster asked if Cosequin can cause diarrhea; it was discussed that any oral medication/supplement can cause gastrointestinal upset, so it is possible. It is okay to discontinue and see if this helps the diarrhea. Patient may have chronic GI disease due to signalment or may have had GI upset from diet change in foster. - Coughing was not observed at time of exam, but is likely from residual CIRDC as patient was recently treated. If the cough does not resolve, it is possible the patient has chronic respiratory or cardiac disease contributing to the cough but this is less likely given normal auscultation. P: - metronidazole 10mg/kg PO q12h x 7d - doxycycline 10mg/kg PO q24h x 7d - recommend offering soft bedding - recommend follow up with family veterinarian for further osteoarthritis workup/care |
