About me Hi, I'm Maddox. I am confident and calm in my foster home, but when I'm out sometimes I can be nervous and reactive around men and seem more comfortable with women. My foster is taking me to Mutt Manners classes to work on this and I'm enjoying the extra treats! My adoption fee is quite the deal! Not only do you get my unconditional love and a new BFF, it includes my spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchip, and even some cool coupons! Why wait? Come meet me today!
01/18/2025 From the foster parent: Maddox is doing great. He is house trained and he knows a handful of commands. He loves laying on his bed outside. He does very well with my other animals. He is scared of thunder and fireworks. He is not food motivated; there are very few treats he actually likes. |
11/06/2024 FROM FOSTER: Maddox is doing great! He is a very laidback dog. He doesn’t react to my cat or other dogs. He loves laying out in the sun. He’s an older dog so he isn’t super mobile; he’d much rather lay around than run around. when it was hot he would get into the play pool I have for the dogs! |
09/11/2024 FROM FOSTER: He’s doing great! I think his head tilt is completely gone. |
08/12/2024 FROM FOSTER: Maddox is wonderful!! So sweet and mellow. I think his head tilt is improving too! |
08/04/2024 FROM FOSTER: First night I fed him he knocked the bowl over and the food got everywhere and I thought it could be because of his balance issues so the next morning I used a bigger/deeper bowl that wouldn’t tip over as easily. He still didn’t eat. So in the afternoon I decided to try giving him some of my dogs’ food and he immediately devoured it. I put it in the bowl on top of the original food as kind of a test and when I checked he didn’t leave any pieces of it so he’s just a picky eater lol But he’s eating great now and drinking plenty of water! He seems very happy and comfortable! |
07/30/2024 Per volunteer: Anxious, but easy leash; sociable and came to handlers for pets and hugs; took all treats; explored yard on own but would come by for attention; alert to loud sounds and did sometimes head to the yard gate and try to see what was happening; head tilt all the time but seemed to be attentive - eyes were focused; sweet and friendly demeanor; not reactive at any time; no issues during return |

04/11/2024 From foster: Maddox is doing better on his walks. What my husband is experiencing is barking but no hackles and no growling. He also isn’t pulling. It’s barking in place. He does like to chase the cats but it’s not an issue at all, because he only wants to play, and he gives up quickly. The birds are still an issue but not as bad. We take him outside to disengage him from his fixation. He really is getting much better with everything. Maddox has been a great companion and is very easy going. He is great with strangers after a slow intro and then he is your best bud every time he sees you. Maddox is a great dog. We hope he finds a good home soon. |
03/10/2024 FROM FOSTER: His leash reactivity is getting better he no longer pulls and now only barks. He needs slow intro to strangers but is crate trained which helps. He is dog door trained. House broken. No reactivity to people who are busy in their yards, garage or workers on the road. It’s the folks walking with or without dogs on his path, but as I stated he is getting better and has access to training assistance from Mutt Manners. cat friendly as long as there is a slow intro and the cats are dog friendly. He was good with my dog, but my dog has since passed. does seem to be Alfa, but was never aggressive to my alpha female (before she passed). does NOT jump up when greeting you. He is a four on the floor kind of guy. He is also very mellow, doesn’t destroy furniture or shoes when left alone out of his kennel. If you know someone who does well with leash training who can foster this wonderful pup. He is food motivated and not clingy. He loves sunbathing in the backyard, doesn’t bark after getting used to the neighborhood noises. |
02/08/2024 FROM FOSTER: We went to a Mutt Manners evaluation. Maddox was not reactive to anyone as we arrived or left the facility. He did bark a few times as people walked by the window, but he was easy to redirect. He does need some work for the reactivity. He reacts to people running or walking on the same path. If people are busy and not paying attention to him, there is very little reaction. He was great in the evaluation. Maddox is such a wonderful dog. He is just a little fearful. Introductions to the family and additional training are needed. Maddox has no dog reactivity that we have found. No matter how much they bark around him, he stays chill. Maddox is interested in my cats but not in a bad way. He is not reactive to the cats, but I want to do more intros. I know birds are a BIG NO with him. Maddox loves my birds, and not in a good way. He keeps jumping up on the cages. Maddox is a four on the floor kind of guy. He doesn’t jump up. He takes treats gently. He walks great on a leash, other than when he gets reactive to people, but like I said busy people don’t make him reactive it’s the one’s who are on his path, we are working on it, but more mutt manners for the adopters would help. He is a sweet easy going guy. |
01/21/2024 FROM FOSTER: Maddox had absolutely no reaction to dogs barking at him or to cats, so far no face-to-face just through a glass door for both. Maddox is truly a chill dog. |
01/12/2024 Per volunteer: Maddux was excited and wiggly during the leashing process, exited his kennel and the building with a mild pull. Outside, he walked with a loose lead most of the walk. He was friendly with people we passed, and when we stopped for treats he was very affectionate with me and took treats gently. We passed by one dog in a yard that was reactive towards him, he kept walking, ignoring this dog. He was easy to return and unleash. He is a very nice dog! |
12/29/2023 Per volunteer: He was sitting in the corner of his kennel napping when I went to get him for a walk. Very easy kennel pole, and allowed me to put him in a full body harness allowing full body touching. Would get a little excited in a non-threatening way when other dogs would pass, but in general, he is pretty low, energy and easy loves to stop and sniff a lot on the walk. Knows how to sit and takes treats extremely gently. Even though he’s a big boy, he thinks that he is a lapdog. As soon as I sat down on the bench, she immediately hopped up and on my lap, wanting love and affection. Very easy kennel return, he walked right in for me |
12/17/2023 Per volunteer: Easy kennel pull. Walked well on leash. Barked at other reactive dogs. Knows sit for treats. allowed lots of petting and was very affectionate. Easy kennel return |
12/11/2023 Per volunteer: Maddux was calm in his kennel as I approached for our walk. He was easy to leash and exited the kennel and building with a mild pull. On the walk, he alternated between a mild pull and no pull. At one point, we needed to stop to put some distance between us and another dog being walked ahead of us. Maddux was very good about sitting and waiting, he was watching the other dog as he sat, and did try to attract the other dog/walkers with a couple of barks. He remained sitting when this happened, he didn’t seem to be reacting negatively to them, just wanted to gain their attention. We stopped for pets and treats; he was not interested in my treats but was very affectionate/affiliative with me. He pulled mildly for the rest of the walk and to his kennel, entered the kennel and allowed removal of the leash easily. |
11/20/2023 Per vollunteer: Standing calmly in the kennel.. easy to leash and exit …light to moderate pull for most of the walk.. also a little reactive (barking) to a jogger going by.. sits and enjoys treats.. very nice dog..easily returned .. no reaction to barking dogs |
11/16/2023 Out for walk. barked at other dogs, otherwise did well on leash AO |
11/04/2023 Easy leash; moderate pull; non-reactive in wing; entered kennel; easy leash removal |
10/27/2023 Per volunteer: easy pull and return to kennel, ignored barking dogs walking past kennel, curious about other dogs and people went by play yard and barked a bit. Very friendly, seeks attention and pets, takes treats gently, knows sit and allowed brushing. |
10/11/2023 Canine approached with loose body and wagging tail, took hot dogs. Separated from kennel mate, avoidant of leash, had to step into kennel. Once leashed easy walk to yard, no reaction to other dogs along the way. After exploring canine approached handler with loose body and wagging tail, allowed petting all over. Came when called, then jumped on handler's lap soliciting more attention. Not interested in hot dogs. Easy walk back, return and leash removal. |
10/06/2023 Dog was hanging with finder's 5 Chihuahuas. He approached me with hackles raised while he sniffed my feet and legs. His hackles went down once I pet him and we made friends. Allowed all gentle handling. |
10/06/2023 Brought onto ramp on leash, soft body, seeked attention, allowed all handling, vaccinated with light restraint, taken to kennel on leash |
