About me Hi, I'm Cletus, I'm a gentle giant who loves to give kisses and snuggles. I'm a well-mannered boy who walks nicely on a leash and enjoys exploring the world around me. I'm looking for a loving home where I can shower my family with affection and enjoy plenty of cuddles on the couch. If you adopt me...not only do you get my unconditional love and a new BFF, it includes my spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchip, and even some cool coupons! Why wait? Come meet me today!
02/07/2025 FROM FOSTER: Cletus got to do a photoshoot with a local pet photographer, so he got some new cute headshots! He continues to do well at home, and doesn't ask for much but loves to play with his ball. He enjoys napping on the couch with his pillow, and going on our morning and evening walks. He doesn't bark except when a package arrives outside his window, and he has never had an accident. We still ask people not to pet him, he just isn't a fan of strangers, but I am absolutely willing to meet with future adopters a few times so he can be more comfortable with them-- he is easily bribed by hot dogs. Highschool age or older would be ideal for Cletus! |
01/23/2025 FROM FOSTER: Cletus is dog friendly and he is very playful and gentle with all sizes. I have two grumpy senior gals who don't want to play with him and he respects that, but I do keep them separate most of the day because my dogs aren't afraid to tell him how they feel; he has always been super respectful around them and between the doggie gate. He has coexisted with my cats and tortoise (always supervised), has nicely sniffed face to face, but mostly ignores them. He is a great walking/running/hiking buddy. I believe he needs an experienced handler, and he will thrive with someone familiar with guarding breeds, as I have noticed the following: It's best to feed him separately from any existing pets and pick up dog bowls when finished, as he prefers you leave his bowl alone when he's snacking. He is not big on new people coming up and petting him, he wants to get to know humans before he becomes super affectionate, but he warms up after a couple of hours. With that being said he still does great in public places (patios, botanical garden, hiking, etc), I just ask people not to approach/pet him, and just let him sniff them. Once he is comfy with you he is such a cuddle bug and enjoys cuddling on the couch and getting belly rubs. I hope this reaches the right person, because Cletus is such a well mannered gentleman, and he has so much love to give his future adopters. |
01/09/2025 FROM FOSTER: Cletus is really starting to come out of his shell! He’s met a few dogs (both big and small) and has been very friendly, saying hello and playing nicely under supervision on a leash. As for his interactions with people, I’ve noticed he has a unique reaction to petting by strangers. He occasionally gives what I’d describe as a “pleasure growl” while leaning in or pawing for more pets. This could be typical of his Husky/German Shepherd mix, but it’s something to be mindful of. To set him up for success, I’ve asked people to let him approach them first, allow him to sniff, and pet him gently only if he’s sitting calmly. He seems to do better with people who have a calm energy only because he tries to match high energy by jumping and pawing on that person to play. Otherwise he is so gentle and sweet on leash or cuddling on the couch. He's a great dog! |
01/01/2025 From foster: Cletus is doing very well. I put the easy walk harness on him and he doesn't pull at all with that, he loves walks, is calm in the car and appears to be friendly towards all dogs we pass (even if they are barking at him, he shows zero reaction). He would make a great hiking partner, he has lots of energy when you take him outside, but otherwise he is super calm in his room and never chews on anything. He hums along to sirens when they pass by, it's super cute. |
12/29/2024 From Foster: Cletus did very well on his first night. He relaxed in his room and did not chew on anything. He knows sit and lay, and is definitely potty trained. He loves walks and meeting new people. He is the perfect patio buddy too, he will just sit next to you and watch you eat. |
