About me Hi, I’m Nia! 2 years old | 54 lbs | American Pit Bull Terrier Mix If you're looking for a sweet, gentle girl to be your snuggle buddy and adventure partner, I might just be the pup for you! I’m Nia—a 2-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix with a soft brown and white coat and a heart full of love. I weigh about 54 pounds, and my favorite place in the world is snuggled up next to a human while we sleep. It’s the coziest thing ever, and I’m really good at it. I love car rides, going for walks (I’m great on leash—barely any pulling!), and exploring the world with my people. I'm crate trained, sit on command, and I'm learning more cool things every day. I also have a funny little habit: if I can’t finish a treat, I’ll hide it for later—just thinking ahead! When we went to a restaurant, I was super calm and relaxed, just happy to be part of the outing. I love people so much and will happily soak up all the pets and attention you’ve got to give. If you’ve got love, I’ve got even more to give back. So, what do you say? Ready to share your home (and maybe your bed) with a loyal, loving best friend? Love, Nia
06/06/2025 FROM FOSTER: We have not let her interact with other dogs yet, but everytime we take her on walks, she seems very interested to know other dogs across the street. She doesn't show any aggressive or defensive behaviors. Even when the other dogs barked, she seemed relatively calm and not reactice. I think she would be happier to live with dogs. |
06/06/2025 FROM FOSTER: We have an update on Nia. She should be fine with kids. We went to a restaurant this afternoon. Under supervision, Nia let a 3 year old girl pet her and accepted treats from her nicely. The little girl was super gentle and calm towards Nia. |
05/30/2025 FROM FOSTER: She is doing great. She is good with crate training. She does Sit really well and we are teaching her Drop (let go toys). She loves people and cars. |
05/27/2025 From the foster parent: She is doing very well in foster care. She is definitely much calmer now. We have been walking her twice every day, about 40 minutes to an hour each time. She usually pulls a little bit at the beginning of a walk. After being reminded for the first 10 minutes, she walks super well. She doesn't seem to care about smaller dogs on walks, but is intetested in bigger ones across the street. She doesn't pull or lunge. She is apprehensive staring at them. We also took her out to a park Sunday night. She pulled pretty hard at the park, but she settled down fast once we settled down. She liked all our friends and let them pet her and give her treats. She is sooo gentle taking treats. We don't have kids, and we still don't know how she would be with one. When we saw kids on walks, she didn't really react to them. She does seem to have a gentle soul, and I think she might just need some introduction. She definitely doesn't understand how strong she is. She is just big silly baby. She has not been in a home before it seems to me. So she is curious and nosy about everything around. She carried some of our shoes to bed, but there wasn't any chew marks. We still keep her in the crate with a kong toy if we are out, so we don't know if she chews funiture or not. When I am in the room with her, other than basic training sessions, she just sleeps most of time. She does have quite some zoomies every day. One thing that stands out is that she needs to pee quite often, like every 2 -3 hours. She peed a couple of times in our bathroom. I caught her on spot and told her no. But I dont think she knows what no means yet. Lol... she also is picky on food. That might be because we have been training her on crate and come, so we have been rewarding her with delicious treats. I might be biased. She is perfect! |
05/25/2025 From foster: Nia is adapting very well. She is slowly relaxing. She does have tons of zoomies and that might just be part of her personality. She is a giant goofy ball. She is good on walks, with occasional pull. She discovered the bed last night and turned into a pillow monster. We will keep letting her relax on her own and teach her name and crate. She is getting more confident by the minute. |

05/11/2025 Tails Around Town - Nia enjoys car rides with air blasting while lounging in the back seat. I took her to vist the family and enjoy the park with lots of shade and grass. Before we went to the park we treated ourselves to coffee and a pup cup! Once she was done sniffing everything and trying to get people to say hello, we went back to my place to play in a kiddie pool. She was very unimpressed and so we went on a drive. She enjoyed the car ride more than the pool! |

04/29/2025 Tails Around Town - Nia was very excited for our day. She jumped in the car and was quick to try to jump to the front. A leash seatbelt kept her safely in the back seat and she settled in for the car ride after that. We started our day with a walk at Dobson Ranch Park. She walks well on a leash with mild pulling. Later we went to TJ Maxx, Home Goods, and Ross. She did really well there and was very eager to smell everything. She is so friendly! She went up to anyone and everyone who would give her attention. We later stopped by In-N-Out for lunch and I got her a single patty. Once she smelled our lunch she was excited. Nia is very food motivated and was by my side throughout lunch until she got her patty. She takes treats and food nicely. Knows how to sit. She wasn’t very interested in toys today. She didn’t bark at any dog or animal we saw. Overall, Nia is a sweet and loving girl! |
04/28/2025 TRAINING CLASS: Nia was a little bit overstimulated for the first half of class. She took a while to open up and work but when she did she followed commands very diligently. 04/13/2025 Tails Around Town - We were a well matched duo as both of us were first time Tails Around Town participants: we went to Encanto Park, Home Depot, and In N Out for a pup patty. In between, we took the long way so that she could nap, or look out the car window. Some important highlights about Nia that showcase her resiliency and temperament: She settles down in the car easily. She is extremely gentle when taking treats. She walks well on a leash, she also liked to run around but she can walk slowly, too. She didn't seem to pay any attention to other animals (dogs, birds, ducks). Even when a small dog started barking at her, she was non-reactive and kept-on with her day. She knows "sit" and will patiently wait for her treats. |

04/04/2025 Observation From Training Session: We worked on some confidence building with people and new things, by doing this we were putting our paws up on wobbly surfaces and getting treats from new people in low stimulation environments. We also worked on getting the leash on and off over her head and saw a major difference by the end. Her body language was very loose and she wasn't bucking like a bronco when the lead went on. She really likes beef liver and salmon treats! |
04/01/2025 Upon arrival to the kennel Nia came immediately forward. Once the door was cracked she play bowed a few times. I stepped one foot in the kennel and she was able to easily be leashed. Moderate pull out. We went to the Grooming room. Nia allowed all handling. Nia had a good wipe down with pup wipes. Nia jumped right in the car. Nia is an excellent passenger she loves to observe everything that is going on but remained completely calm and relaxed. We arrived to Sniff Spot. It was party time!! she enjoyed it so much. She was able to get her Zommies out. She loved chasing the ball (no return). She loves meeting all new people. The host of the Sniff Spot came out and her husband. Nia is very intent when it comes to food, but she very patient and takes treats nicely. After the Sniff Spot, Nia took a short nap in the car and then we arrived to the Gilbert Riparian. She was very friendly to all new people. She encountered many other pups and remained non-reactive to other dogs passing. She was very interested in the ducks. After a nice stroll we found a nice patch of grass to relax in the shade. Nia loves to just sit with you and be close. Nia is a great girl. She loves to move and be activity. Nia is very patient and always up for the next adventure. Nia had a nice nap on the way back to the shelter. Very Easy return. I peeked in on her after we were back for a hour and she was sleeping soundly on her bed. |
