08/20/2024 when handler approached kennel, dog became stiff, low growl, hard stare. When handler cracked kennel open, dog went to corner of kennel. handler offered treats, but dog remained in the corner. handler lassoed the dog , dog froze at kennel entrance, handler used a moderate pull , dog army crawled out of kennel and started to shake. moved to other wing. when returning dog back to kennel, dog hade tucked tail, handler was able to retrieve leash easily. |
08/20/2024 Dog responded to handler's approach w/ rhythmic barking, albeit fairly soft barking, furrowed brow, downcast demeanor, averting gaze. Handler spent several minutes meandering up to kennel, dropping in treats (bacon & pupperoni), meandering away, repeating. In short order, dog stopped barking, brow still furrowed but meeting handler's gaze w/ soft eyes, began taking treats from hand w/ very soft mouth. Handler closed guillotine preemptively, offered leash neutrally, dog sniffed it, handler offerd treat in response, dog sniffed it but did not take it. Not eager to be leashed, hunkered from it but allowed, walked out of kennel w/ handler. Dog softly greeted/sniffed noses w/ a calm, soft neighbor, hurried past reactive ones, circled around and placed handler between them and himself, walked hunkered. He tended to hesitate at doorways & thresholds, did well w/ handler proceeding then calling/beckoning softly to him. In yard he sniffed around independently for a minute, relieved himself, then slowly, deliberately approached handler, face fairly soft, brow furrowed, posture a bit hunkered, tail low. Handler offered hands neutrally, dog set head down into them, allowed petting to head, face, neck, seemed to really enjoy ear massage. Dog was very soft w/ handler, sought additional attention almost continuously, a bit environmental, woofed a few times at a vehicle that pulled up near yard but came over to handler & settled when called. After a while, his leash was easily reclaimed, still hesitant of doorways on the way back but much less so. Again hid behind handler to avoid barking neighbors aside from the soft, calm one to whom he approached and softly sniffed noses. Went right back into kennel, no issues removing leash, left w/ jackpot of remaining treats. 08/21/24 13:03 Updating recomendations based on histroy |
