About me I am Goober and I am a senior gentleman that has come out of my shell in the busy shelter. I've been on Tails around Town with my day-friends describing me as very easy going, great on a leash, great with kids and not reactive to other animals. I've also been told by volunteers that I have really come out of my shell and shined for the people that I interact with. Can you tell that I am proud of how far I have come? I really enjoy playing with stuffies and happy butt scratches!! I am a compact 44 lbs, so I am perfect for cruising in the car and helping with errands or scouting during hiking excursions. I am ready to go home with you TODAY as I am already neutered and microchipped and vaccinated. BONUS! I will come licensed with coupons once adopted :)
04/28/2025 Solicited attentions, Easy to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Not interested in toys, Takes treats nicely, Easy/Loose Leash, Ignored dogs when walking past kennels, walked well on leash during walk with a loose and a slight pull on leash; took treats gently but would then spit them out |
04/27/2025 Since arriving at EAC Location late afternoon k9 has consistintly barking in kennel. Barking does not appear to be correlated with any specific triggers. k9 will bark at customers and at wall in kennel. Took k9 out for pm walk to see if he would decompress. k9 did not bark on walk. soft body wiggly tail. Did not seem to be interested in outside sources. Normal behaviors observed on walk. Returned k9 to kennel and continued to bark. Gave k9 enrichment (bully stick) and no improvement. |
04/27/2025 Solicited attentions, Easy to pull from kennel, Moderate to return to kennel, Not interested in toys, Takes treats nicely, Easy/Loose Leash, Calm, Ignored dogs when walking past kennels, Sit, K9 did try to push out of kennel when handler was removing leash. K9 redirected with hot dogs. |
04/27/2025 Handler took on long walk as K9 was barking consistently when in kennel environment. K9 walked well on leash and stayed close to handler's side. K9 did focus on other dogs and people and attempted to enter every building with air conditioning. K9 did utlize the restroom multiple times on walk. After 20 minutes, handler returned to kennel with K9 and K9 did not settle when returned to kennel. |
04/27/2025 Handler worked on "Settle" training with K9. Essentially handler captured when K9 was calm and not vocalizing and rewarding with praise and/or treat. Continued to capture calmed and settled behavior and advanced reward presentation to longer and longer intervals. Handler was able to walk away from K9 for up to 3 minutes before he began demonstrating anxiety behaviors. Handler shared training techniques with another handler who also worked on behavior, and K9 will now settle when requested. K9 seems to have seperation anxiety and does begin to bark when left alone or when there is activity outside his kennel. Handler continued to work on "settle" behavior request throughout the day. |

04/17/2025 FROM FOSTER: Goober is a very sweet boy! He is potty trained and has not had any accidents in our home. He is not crate-trained and does not like being in the crate. He has been eating great and sleeps through the night on a large dog bed in our bedroom. He continues to really enjoy his daily walks and has even done the zoomies several times in the yard. On a recent walk, he had a brief encounter with a small dog, which went well (tail wagging, no aggression). In general, he has been non-reactive to other dogs during his walks, even those who are barking. He has been friendly with all people, and on a recent outing, he gladly accepted pets from two young children (the youngest being 5yo). Goober LOVES to be with his people! So long as he is aware that someone is in the house with him, he is happy and very well-behaved. He becomes anxious if left alone, however. He would likely make a great companion in a household where someone is home much of the day. |
04/10/2025 FROM FOSTER: So long as someone is with him, Goober has generally done well in our home. He appears to be potty trained. He is a sweet boy who has demonstrated that he enjoys walks, chew toys, sunbathing and snuggling up on the couch for some nap time. He is eating and sleeping well and allows all petting and handling. |
04/08/2025 FROM FOSTER: Goober is doing well in the home, has had no accidents either. |
04/06/2025 AM ROUNDS: Laying quietly in life room, came forward with soft tail wags & demand barking. |
04/05/2025 Tails Around Town - We had the pleasure of taking Goober out for the day and he is such a sweetheart. He is very easy going, great on a leash, great with kids and not reactive to other animals. He even takes treats very gently. Can’t say enough good things about him and he will be a wonderful addition to any family. |
04/05/2025 Sleeping |
04/04/2025 Dog was laying down as handler approached door to liferoom. Got up with wagging tail and some panting, allowed for easy leashing. Walked with easy leash pull, not reactive to dogs in passing, loose leash pulling. In yard dog solicited attentions with handler, allowed petting all over and showed interest in stuffed toy on bench. Dog picked up stuffed toy and layed on ground with toy, allowed handler to reach for toy and pick up, took toy from handler gently and continued to lay back down with toy. Dog explored and came to handler when called, took treat gently from handlers hand. Walked back with easy leash pull. No issue returning to life room and removing leash by hand. |

03/28/2025 Tails Around Town - Goober walks great on a leash, with hardly ever any leash pressure. He was hesitant to get in the car and leaned more on the anxious side, but by the end of the day, he settled in perfectly. We went to the park where he couldn't have cared less about ducks, kids, or people. We did cross paths with a super friendly dog, and Goober displayed great social skills, although they did not directly interact. He is not too interested in treats, but when he does take one, it is so gentle and slow. He loved pupcups, but his favorite thing is definitely back (not bum) scratches (pure bliss for him!). We had such a great day with Goober; he is such a sweet boy who will make a great companion. |
