About me Ryder is such a good name for me because I am a great car rider. I know how to sit. I know how to stay and I know how to shake, but careful if you don’t watch me I might just grab the treats anyway! I am smart and I know I can learn. I have lots of energy so I would love to have a large yard to run around in, or if you don’t have a yard, I would love to go hiking. My tail is always wagging. I’m just such a happy boy. I’m pretty strong so I do need someone who is able to manage me and be patient and help me learn!
09/01/2025 from temporary foster: He loves lots of cuddles, treats, and to sunbath. He also doesn’t pull on the leash when we go for walks. He was great to look after! |
08/17/2025 From the foster parent: Ryder is doing well. He is such a good boy! We took him to Bass Pro Shop last weekend and he loved looking at the fish and animals. He did so good meeting adults and children - he loves everybody! We got some interest but no takers. We’ve learned that he is afraid of thunder and some other loud noises like from the iron. His stress response is panting, pacing, and getting as close as possible to one of us (preferably right on our laps). He really was a trooper during the storms we had this week and still settled in his bed well during the night. Ryder has met many dogs and is very dog friendly. We introduced him to a cat while he was on a leash and he seemed interested. I think he could learn to live with a cat. He is responding really well to training and boundaries. He is so good in his crate when we leave him alone and is learning to be respectful of his foster brother’s space. Ryder would be an amazing family dog. He just wants to be part of the pack! |
08/01/2025 From foster: Ryder has had a great week! He is a happy, playful, spunky boy. He loves tennis balls, ropes, and anything that squeaks. Ryder does well in his crate when left alone. While he clearly wants to hang out with his humans at all times, his separation anxiety is minimal and he settles quickly when left alone. Ryder pushes the boundaries often and requires corrections when he gets too hyper and starts jumping or playing too hard. He absolutely loves his foster brother (53 lb male dog) and tries to play every chance he gets. He responds well to his foster brother giving corrections during play and he would likely do well with other large, tolerant dogs. |
07/26/2025 From foster: Ryder is doing amazing! He is responding well to firm corrections when he tries to jump up on people. His play can get really mouthy and he’s like a bull in a china shop. He’s incredibly strong and would likely topple a small human so we agree with the recommendation for older children at this time. Ryder is doing well with crate training and leash training but definitely needs more training and consistency. He loves to roll around and do zoomies in the grass during the day and cuddle on the couch at night. He’s such a sweet dog and we love having him! |
07/23/2025 From foster: Ryder is settling in nicely. He slept soundly in his bed all night and woke up ready to play! He is a sweetheart and is a very wiggly, happy boy. We are working on house training as we had a few accidents in the house. We are also working on not letting him jump up on us. He doesn’t know his size! While he loves to be close to people, he has settled well when we leave him alone in his fenced off area. He seems very neutral about seeing our dog through the gate and I imagine he gets along well with other dogs. |
07/21/2025 Run Buddy: Verbally coaxed dog into treadmill. Would stop & go while walking on treadmill. Heavy panting. |
07/21/2025 EET Rounds: Laying quietly on bed while licking a Kong toy. |
07/20/2025 EET ROUNDS: Laying on blanket in middle of room, sleeping with neutral body. |
07/19/2025 Sitting and watching handler. |
07/18/2025 Out for M&G. Upon entering play yard, dog immediately approached potential adopters with wiggly body and wagging tail. Began seeking attention and allowed all petting/handling. Chased toys when thrown. Jumped up against potential adopters to seek attention but was easy to direct down. No issues on return. |
07/18/2025 EET Rounds- Body still, staring at handler. |
07/17/2025 EET ROUNDS: Neutral body standing in front of glass, slight tail wag watching handler. |
07/16/2025 Sleeping on bed. |
07/15/2025 EET Rounds- Standing at window, body stiff, stiff wagging tail, lunged and scratched at window, alarm barking. |
07/14/2025 EET ROUNDS: Neutral body standing in middle of room. |
07/13/2025 EET ROUNDS: Laying down with neutral body watching handler. |
07/12/2025 Sitting at glass, watching customers, and heavily drooling. Slobber all over windows. |
07/11/2025 Standing at window, body stiff, alarm barking at customers. |
07/11/2025 Dog was chewing on window frame as handler walked by. |
07/11/2025 Dog was standing at door, soft body and wagging tail. Easy to leash, hard pull to yard but controllable. Affiliative with handler. Jumpy for treats, able to redirect into a sit but became jumpy again once treat was given. Handler sat on bench, dog jumped on bench next to handler then crawled into lap, allowed petting all over, attempted to lick handler's face. Handler then grabbed stuffed toy and offered it to dog, dog then grabbed toy and pulled hard, handler let go and dog shook toy vigorously. Dog then lied down and started chewing toy. Handler called dog back over, dog approached with soft body and wagging tail, allowed more pets. Able to pick up leash, hard pull back, easy return and leash removal. |

06/20/2025 Tails Around Town - Ryder was very popular at the plant stand, everyone paused to hug on him and take pictures as they checked out. Ryder is a gentle giant taking treats and ice cubes gently. He was up for walks, shopping, car rides to and fro, and lounging in the grass enjoying treats. He's definitely a dog that you can cuddle up on the couch with. He does not hesitate to show his love or demonstrate his still puppy like enthusiasm to be a part of your day. |

06/10/2025 Tails Around Town: We started out at Cesar Chavez Park and gave him a walk, then to Petco for snacks, and finished off at a restaurant called the Main Ingredient that was super dog-friendly. . What a nice dog! Was easy to handle on the leash and took correction the couple times he wanted to pull. Great passenger in the back seat of my truck, and genuinely enjoyed riding around. At the park he was paying attention to other people and animals, but didn't try and engage any of them. We walked right thru a flock of geese/ducks/pigeons and he acted like they weren't there. He was a perfect gentleman at Petco, even though one of the other customers let his puppy loose he just ignored him. Very affectionate to both my wife and I, very well behaved and happy to sit every time offered a treat. He REALLY did like his treats. When we ate at the restaurant he sat patiently while we ate drinking his water and eating a side order of grilled chicken we ordered for him. He's a great dog and we hope he finds the kind of new home he deserves. |
06/08/2025 , I went for a four paws walk today. Ryder was interested and aware of other dogs while on their walk. Ryder’s energy level was high, strength was strong for their size, and walking style would best be described as pulling. Ryder’s personality was playful, affectionate, alert, excited, friendly and Ryder sits on command. Ryder is food motivated and does take treats gently. Did a harness wrap did much better. Would walk next to person, and wanted to say hi to other dogs. wants to run. he does jump but with hand signals he stopped. Once walker said slow he would slow down. |

05/31/2025 Tails Around Town - Ryder was a joy to have. We began with a wash where he was friendly with all the staff and easy to handle on a leash around the other dogs. He then came home and loved cuddling in the couch and bean bag. He was full of joy and loved giving kisses. 05/23/2025 Tails Around Town - I had the opportunity to take Rider out for the day. We had some private time in a fenced area. Rider got to sniff around and play ball. He could easily be encouraged to return a ball with a little effort. Then off to a park with lots of shade. We took a long walk. He would love to be in a home that he could have long walks and be a hiking buddy. Is excellent on leash. I hope he can find a loving home soon. |

04/25/2025 Tails Around Town - I had the pleasure of taking Ryder out for a few hours! I brought him to Bark If You’re Dirty where he received a bath and he was absolutely perfect for it. Allowed us to pick him up and place him in the tub, did not mind his feet being touched at all. After, we took a long stroll around Encanto Park. Ryder was NOT reactive towards ducks, geese, birds, or other dogs. Lots of kids running around screaming, people on bikes, he was very interested in everyone and tried to meet everyone he could. He road amazing in the car, although he would rather be passenger princess than a back seat driver! Knows to sit, stay, and even learned to shake.
